  • Aided in locating and referencing a variety of sources including periodicals, journal articles, and dissertations according to the appropriate citation style

L2 Writing Tutor

  • Educated students on scholarly writing topics covering content, grammar, vocabulary, coherence, and reference citation

  • Assisted students in preparing for TOEFL IBT, and IELTS by assigning writing tasks

  • Checked papers and assignments for plagiarism and academic dishonesty

  • Provided students best practices covering note-taking strategies and various reading techniques


English Tutor

  • Provided additional one-on-one EFL tutoring assistance to young and adult learners including preparing supplementary instruction materials, creating individual study plans, providing personalized feedback to students

  • Successfully prepared students for standardized English tests (e.g., IELTS, FCE, SSAT) comprised of writing, reading, speaking, and listening sections

  • Facilitated acquisition of ELL's overall communicative competence as well as aided students in the development of learning strategies for particular language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) or competencies (linguistic, sociolinguistic, strategic and discourse)

Over six years of tutoring experience enabled me to deepen my understanding of second language acquisition. Over this time, I developed the skills necessary to help students of various English proficiency levels, cultural backgrounds, age groups, and learning styles succeed in achieving their learning objectives. Tutoring children, middle school students, undergraduate students, and community members aided my ability to identify learners' needs and successfully prepare them for standardized English tests (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, FCE, KET, PET, and SSAT) comprised of writing, reading, speaking, and listening sections. Working at the two writing labs for Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE) and ELIP Academic & Global Communication Program allowed me to understand the challenges multilingual writers often face in academic writing as well as design solutions to overcome them. This fostered my leadership skills and resulted in my ability to supervise other tutors in developing these skills.
